As dog law solicitors based in London we advise on all aspects of dog law including:
- Actions under the Dogs Act 1871(where a civil complaint has been issued by the police or local authority in the Magistrates Court. If a decision is made by the court finding that the dog is dangerous then the Court can order that your dog must be kept under proper control or it will be destroyed.)
- Actions under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 (where a criminal charge is brought by the Crown Prosecution Service. This Act covers situations where a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place. If while dangerously out of control a dog injures a person a more serious offence is caused. The penalties can be imprisonment and/or a fine for the person in charge of the dog .In addition a Control Order may be imposed or a Destruction Order.)
- Actions under the Animal Welfare Act 2006(where a prosecution has been brought against you for cruelty under section 4 of the Act or under section 9 of the Act where you are found to have failed in your duty of care to the dog.)
- Third party claims(where an action is brought against you for damage caused by your dog to another person or another animal).
